Sometimes it’s hard to get rid of a favorite t-shirt even when it's gotten too old to wear. One way to continue enjoying your graphic tee is to turn it into wall art. This is an easy Do-It-Yourself project that recycles your shirt instead of keeping it hidden away in a dresser drawer.
All you need for this DIY project is a canvas that will fit your t-shirt design, a pair of scissors, and a staple gun. We used a 11"x14" canvas.

1. Slide the canvas inside the t-shirt and move it around so the graphic design is centered on the canvas.
2. Pull the sides of the shirt taut around to the back of the canvas and staple the shirt into the canvas board backing. Trim away the excess t-shirt material and you're all finished!

Camping Themed Birthday Party

By J .
on July 08, 2018

Calling all Happy Campers!

Camping themed parties are fun, easy and don't cost a fortune. You can have a camping party right in your own backyard. Pitch a tent, play picnic games, make s'mores and sleep under the stars. It’s a great way to make a birthday party special, even with a smaller group.

What we love about a camping themed party are all the outdoor activities. Use our free Nature Scavenger Hunt printable and set out on a hike around the neighborhood.

Another simple idea is to make DIY bandana hobo bags. Fill them with party favors that can be used while camping. The bandanas are great for Capture The Flag or Blind Lineup. Goofy String is always good for String Tag and water guns are perfect for a fun Target Shooting Contest. Have a Bubble Blowing Contest too and give your campers Bubble Gum Tomboy Tees to get them in the spirit! Flashlights, canteens, a compass and glow in the dark items are always fun party favors too. These are all easy and budget-friendly favors sure to bring smiles long after your party has ended.

Seattle Gum Wall At Pike Place Market

By J .
on August 12, 2017

If you've ever been to the famous Gum Wall in Seattle's Pike Place Market you'll probably agree it's a little gross and the last thing you want to do is lean up against it but it's a fun Seattle landmark and a tradition that's been kept alive since 1991. The wall is in an alleyway by the Market Theater and the story is that theater-goers started sticking their gum to the wall as they waited in line.

While standing there in the alley, chewing gum and people watching we got caught up in the spirit of the place and decided to giveaway a few Bubble Gum Tomboy Tees.

These two ladies scored our free shirts and happily posed with their new bubblegum swag.

In keeping with the local tradition our already-been-chewed (ABC) gum got added to Seattle's Gum Wall before we left.

10 Simple Outdoor Adventures

By J .
on July 06, 2016

“Life is inherently risky. There is only one big risk you should avoid at all costs, and that is the risk of doing nothing.” ~Denis Waitley

Everyone wants to live life to the fullest. Having life adventures doesn't have to be exclusively enjoyed by world travelers or multi sport thrill seekers. You can easily fit smaller, less expensive adventures into your life which will satisfy your wanderlust. Adventure can be had everyday by just breaking from your normal routine or trying something new. The heart of any adventure is spontaneity and making happy memories.

Here at Tomboy Vintage we love a good outdoor fix so here's our list of 10 Simple Outdoor Adventures that take minimal planning, cost next to nothing, and can be done on a day off from work:

1. Walk A Scenic Route: Grab your good walking shoes and head to an area of natural or cultural beauty. Start off early in the morning and plan to walk further than you normally would.

2. Jump On Your Bike: Peddle around a new town and explore the backroads. Pack a lunch and find a scenic picnic spot or dine at a local restaurant in town.

3. Go Skinny-Dipping: Find a secluded river, lake, beach or even a swimming pool and enjoy how free you feel swimming nude.

4. Climb A Small Mountain: Find a mountain (or hill) nearby and hike to the top. Standing on top of the highest point in any area is a great feeling and you’ll be rewarded with the views.

5. Go Camping Mid-Week: After work, grab a few camping essentials and head straight for the wilderness. Sleep under the stars for a night, wake up early and head back to work smiling.

6. Take a Long Hike: Pack a lunch, plenty of water and bring your sense of adventure for a day of exploration on a new wilderness trail.

7. Go Sea Kayaking: Many recreational ocean areas offer kayak rentals. Beginners can choose to stay close to the shoreline or remain in the harbor. If you want to amp up your adventure head into the open water.

8. Try Geocaching: There are millions of geocaches hidden around the world and there are probably some near you right now. Geocaching can take you to places you've never been before and it's a fun day spent treasure hunting.

9. Rock Climbing: As a beginner, you'll start out doing indoor climbing, bouldering or top-rope climbing outdoors to learn basic climbing skills. If you’re looking for fitness, fun and a healthy dose of adrenaline, then rock climbing is a worthy pursuit.

10. Stand Up Paddle Boarding:  SUP is the fastest-growing sport on water and offers a fun, relaxing way to play on ocean surf or placid lakes and rivers. Since you stand at your full height, you can enjoy unique views of everything from sea creatures to what’s on the horizon.

Go have fun and create a day you'll remember!

How To Cut A T-Shirt Into A Crop Top DIY Tutorial

By J .
on June 18, 2014

This tutorial is easy, we promise! All you need for this super cute tank top is a pair of scissors and our Bubble Gum Tomboy Tee. In just a few simple steps you'll have an adorable crop top for Summer!

First, cut the collar and sleeves off your t-shirt. Be sure to cut the seams completely off, but follow them closely as you cut.

Next, decide what length you'd like for your crop top and cut straight across the back of the t-shirt, making sure not to cut the front of your tee. (Note: we cropped our shirt approximately 6" from the bottom hem).

Lastly, cut the bottom hem off the front of your shirt and make a straight cut up the middle (approximately 6"-7"). Then, from the bottom of that middle cut, make diagonal cuts up to meet the cropped back portion of the t-shirt on either side.

Now just tie a knot in front and there you have it!
